We often get asked if we sell UGG Boots, so we thought we’d clarify things for you…
We do not sell the brand known as UGG Australia, which is owned by Deckers Outdoor Corporation. However, before we re-branded as The Celtic Sheepskin Co. we were called The Original UGG Boot Co. making and selling UGG boots in the UK.
In 1996 we licensed our UK UGG trademark to the Deckers Outdoor Corporation with an option to buy at a later date. The term UGG is now registered to the Deckers Outdoor Corporation.
Our boots are branded as Celt Boots and are handmade in our own factory in Newquay, Cornwall using 100% real sheepskins. You can read more about our company history here.
What is an Ugg Boot?
There are lots of Ugg Boots available on the market now, including our own Celt Boots. It's not absolutely clear where the term Ugg originated, however, we believe “Ugg Boot” is a generic term that first originated in Australia and was used to describe the style of Sheepskin Boots worn by surfers to keep their feet warm after spending hours in the sea. These surfers, travelling the world in search of the perfect wave, brought the Ugg boot to Newquay in Cornwall in about 1973. Ever since then, Ugg boots have been made in Newquay.
What makes our Celt Boots so special?
We employ over 40 staff including skilled cutters, machinists, gluers, finishers, checkers and warehouse staff who all work together to ensure that all our boots are the very best quality and fit that they can possibly be. When you place your order with us, you are dealing directly with the people who make your Celt boots so you can be guaranteed of the highest quality product, with knowledgeable and friendly staff on hand to help you with any queries.
By hand making our Celt Boots we can combine traditional skills and eco-friendly manufacture with contemporary design. The energy requirements of our factory are low, we keep waste to a minimum, try to source all our materials from suppliers within the UK or Europe, boost the local economy by providing jobs and use fully recycled packaging.
Unlike most other Ugg Boots, our Celt boots are made to last and can be resoled and repaired, ensuring that they keep on looking as good as they feel! What’s more, most of our boot styles are also machine washable.
