BRITISH PUBLIC 'SHOULD OPT FOR SUSTAINABLE CLOTHES'
The British public should heed Prince Charles's suggestion and start buying sustainable clothes that will last for longer than a season, one journalist has suggested.
He was recently given a two-page spread in the US edition of Vogue to explain his campaign to encourage more people to buy wool clothing and Daily Mail writer Liz Jones has urged shoppers to follow his example.
"While most of us are well aware that we should drive less [and] recycle more … it seems being mindful about our clothes is still seen as elitist," Ms Jones commented.
Purchasing a mens jumper made from wool or a ladies cashmere jumper may be one step people can take on the way of creating a wardrobe of clothes made from long-lasting, sustainable materials.
Speaking at trade fashion event Pure London recently, Vanessa Brain of the Fairtrade Foundation noted demand for Fairtrade cotton has increased over the past five years, a possible indication that the public are taking ethical issues into consideration when making purchases.
