FAIR-TRADE CLOTHING IS "INSPIRATIONAL"

Awareness of fair-trade clothing could be increased and more Britons may become aware of the issues surrounding the matter.

Laura Bailey, model and contributor to British Vogue, recently spoke at the British Fashion Council's Estethica event, which included a panel discussion on the marketing and presentation of ethical fashion.

She said she had worked on various fair-trade projects and seen the process of how such clothing is created from start to finish.

"I realised that I had never witnessed all the stages of the journey and it's inspirational," Ms Bailey explained.

Fashion consumers in the UK often rely on mass media to inform them of what to buy and there should be more consciousness of eco issues when making this decision.

"There needs to be a reassessment of value and an advocation of 'slow fashion' and timelessness," the model and writer urged.

In a recent interview for Style.com, Julie Gilhart, fashion director at Barney's New York, agreed that so-called slow fashion was becoming a trend following the recession.

She advised shoppers to buy quality items they know will last and be worn frequently, rather than purchasing in excess.ADNFCR-2444-ID-19746480-ADNFCR
