Ethical clothing fans with an expansive wardrobe should ensure their home insurance takes this into account, a company claims.

Research by Hiscox has found Brits spend an average of £1,000 a year on fashion, with eight per cent buying between £200 and £400 of clothes each month.

More than half admit their spend on ethical clothing and other garments has not changed since the onset of the recession, with four per cent admitting they are actually buying more.

Austyn Tusler, a household insurance expert, warns homeowners that their current insurance policy may not take into account the cost of the ethical clothing they have acquired.

He states: "It is important that people spend a bit of time totting up the costs of replacing their items to make sure their full wardrobe is covered."

Mr Tusler says the key mistake people make is considering only this season's outfits rather than taking the whole collection into account.

Those wanting to reduce the number of items in their wardrobe should go through their garments and discard each item that no longer fits, What She Wears editor Anne Boyhan recently claimed.ADNFCR-2444-ID-19372139-ADNFCR
