SHOPPERS 'MUST LEARN MORE ABOUT ETHICAL CLOTHING'
Shoppers need to educate themselves more about the conditions behind their garments, which could affect sales of ethical clothing.
Anna Shepherd, author of How Green Are My Wellies?, calls for consumers to become more active, rather than passively accepting cheap goods, the Times reports.
She says the exposure of conditions behind many high street label productions have yet to affect shopping habits.
"One reason we ignore the reality behind cheap clothing is that it is difficult to know the real story behind each step of the sourcing and manufacturing process," she claims.
Ms Shepherd says that when someone buys a pair of jeans for £5, the majority know that someone in the process will have been poorly paid or treated.
In other news, the e-Retail Sales Index has found more ethical clothing fans are turning to the web when shopping for garments, with the fashion market growing faster than the average rise in online sales.
