CONSUMERS 'WANT ETHICAL CLOTHING'
Shoppers want to buy ethical clothing and understand more about the concepts behind it, according to a fashion expert.
The high street is starting to "bite the cherry" and get involved in ethical clothing, according to the founder of the From Somewhere fashion label.
Orsola de Castro, who started the label, said consumers wanted "ethical everything and a shift to ethical thinking".
She added that more high street stores were beginning to think about ethical fashion and recycled goods.
According to the British Fashion Council, six designer businesses have been selected to develop ethical brands.
These include Christopher Raeburn, Goodone Minna, Ada Zanditon, The North Circular and Nina Dolcetti.
All of the designers will receive mentorship from the consultants Bev Malik, Yasmin Sewell and Susanne Tide-Frater.
Figures from Mintel have revealed that sales of ethical clothing have quadrupled in the last five years.
The market is worth £175 million.
