And this trend is not just limited to evenings and weekends, as men are often encouraged to sport a more dressed-down look at work.
Mr Julian advised males on essential items for every wardrobe and these included a selection of outdoor coats.
Wool pea coats and a lightweight trench are ideal for most occasions, he revealed.
Men's knitwear is also a must, with the expert stating "a good sweater wardrobe can take a man through many social situations in style".
He suggested "cardigans can take the place of a jacket", so they could also prove to be a good investment.
Men looking for fashion inspiration could pay attention to reports from Milan Men's Fashion Week, which is currently being held in the stylish Italian city.
