Britons may consider donning knitwear after being advised that they should always wear a hat and wrap up warm when venturing out in the cold weather.

The Dorset Echo reported that there will be Arctic conditions in the area as temperatures may fall to ten degrees Celsius below zero this week.

A spokesperson from a local Age Concern branch said that many elderly people have been slipping on the ice and wearing a hat is essential to combat the cold.

One of the worst hit places in Dorest will be Dorchester and local weatherman John Oliver said "the temperature this week will depend on how clear it is".

Motorists may also consider packing knitwear and warm clothes into cars after the AA warned of an increase in breakdowns and extra travel time.

Yesterday (January 4th) the AA expected its busiest ever day. By 14:00 GMT, the organisation had attended 18,000 breakdowns since midnight.

Worsening conditions today mean that people must check police advice before travelling. ADNFCR-2444-ID-19540024-ADNFCR
