KNITWEAR SALES 'UP ACROSS EUROPE'
Knitwear has been increasingly popular across Europe in recent months, it has been claimed.
Wool and other warm clothes were in high demand, particularly during the cold snap at the start of the year, Queensland Country Life reported.
Consumers are "once again reaching for a woolly garment and … fashion buyers [are] heralding the re-birth of the natural fibre despite recession woes still hanging in the air", the publication explained.
France, the UK and New York were cited as areas where wool and knitwear is particularly in demand.
Men's knitwear performed well on the UK high street in December and had larger sales than womenswear, it was noted.
Women's accessories such as tights and leggings were also a popular way to stay warm over the festive period.
It was added that sales of wool across Europe have increased in recent times. This coincides with a statement this week from Prince Charles, who said he was determined to get a better price for wool to British farmers.
