US OPEN 'CALLED FOR WOOL KNITWEAR'
Players at the US Open - held at Pebble Beach, California, on June 14th-20th - donned their wool knitwear to stay warm, it is reported.
"It turned into the Sweater Open, as the players had to pull on knitwear or thermal pullovers for most of the weekend," writes Woody Hochswender from golf.com.
Graeme McDowell - who won the contest - wore a classic grey buttoned-up cardigan on each day of the tournament.
Tiger Woods put a men's sweater over a white golf shirt, which was "Woods at his most stylish", the writer claims.
Mr Hochswender notes a number of players adopted a very similar look in the early rounds of the US Open.
A knitted vest in black was commonly sported over a short-sleeved white golf shirt, with the outfit completed by grey or black trousers.
He explains this is the "perfect combination" because it keeps the players warm but also allows them to move easily.
Men could go for a similar look at the Ryder Cup, which will be held in Wales on October 1st-3rd.
