The British yarn industry is currently being commemorated at the I Love West Leeds Festival this month.

Casey Orr, a photographer from Armley, Leeds, has created the Wool exhibition to showcase the area's industrial heritage.

She was quoted by the Guardian as saying: "Armley was built on the wool industry with most residents having, at one time, some connection to textiles through Armley's mills and factories."

Her images will first be displayed at The Millspace in Armley Mills on Canal Road, with many photographs depicting the workers who were previously employed in the British yarn industry.

Ms Orr explained many of the women are now in their 80s and meet at the Armley Helping Hands charity events to knit, play bingo and socialise with one another.

The orgainsation was set up in 1995 and now has 1,836 people registered, with more than 200 members accessing the group weekly.

Running from July 3rd-25th, the I Love West Leeds Festival is being held around the region and looks at Leeds's role in the country's industrial production.
