Wool knitwear comes in all shapes and sizes, but perhaps no larger than one item, which is due to be unveiled in the US today (May 25th).

A gigantic handmade pink scarf, thought to be the world's longest, will be revealed in Oak Hill, West Virginia, reports the Fayette Tribune.

More than 1,000 feet of material makes up the women's knitwear, which was created in honour of Terri's Tribute, a fund supporting children who have lost their mothers to breast cancer.

People from across the country have contributed to the piece, which has been both knitted and crocheted by a total of 70 women and one man.

Lessons in the art of knitwear have been given to encourage people to join in with the project.

Kay Bess collected the pieces and stitched them together. She was quoted by the publication as saying: "Every day I get pieces in the mail, it's like Christmas … It's been amazing to see how interested people are to put their hands and hearts into this project."

Many people recognise the pink ribbon as a sign of support for sufferers of breast cancer.
