LADIES AND MENS KNITWEAR 'AMONG MOST SUCCESSFUL RETAIL CATEGORIES'
Ladies and mens knitwear is proving to be one of the most successful categories in retail at the moment, it is claimed.
And this has led to increasing numbers of people taking up knitting as a hobby, as well as more interest in the sector as a whole, according to a writer at Knitting Industry.
Debra Johnston Cobb explained New York's Knit Resource Center is offering services, such as a yarn library, to meet this demand.
She revealed the recent New York SpinExpo, held over three days, saw ladies and mens knitwear designers attend to showcase their creations and more than 1,500 visitors were present at the exhibition.
"Noble fibres - cashmere, alpaca, mohair, camel and angora - were much in evidence, sometimes blended with Merino, silk, cotton or flax," Ms Johnston Cobb noted.
Many of these materials are known for their soft, luxurious qualities, with Merino and cashmere particularly popular in ladies and mens jumpers, due to their cosy nature.
