According to recent research from Mintel, many females in the UK currently prefer this option, rather than purchasing items that can only be worn for one season.
It found 28 per cent of consumers opt for "timeless" styles, instead of simply heading for the latest trends.
This was particularly the case among shoppers who planned on spending more money on clothing this year.
Almost four in ten consumers who intend to increase their fashion expenditure over the coming months said they would pay a higher price for quality pieces, it was noted.
Ladies' knitwear from Celtic Sheepskin could provide women with investment items of clothing.
A women's cardigan, for example, can be worn over layers in the winter months when it is colder, but it is also an ideal cover-up in summer.
