Wool knitwear lessons are being held to keep families busy over the bank holiday.

Tippens Wood Alpaca Farm in Berkshire will host an open day to educate people on the craft.

Owned by Anila and David Preston, the farm contains a number of alpacas, whose wool is used for a variety of purposes.

On May 31st, families can go along and meet the animals before learning what happens to the material they create.

"We are going to have spinning, an alpaca drawing competition and games of pin the tail on the alpaca," Ms Preston told the Reading Post.

Alpaca wool can be turned into wool knitwear or it may also be used for felt to create items such as handbags, she noted.

Some 39 of the animals live at the farm, one of which is Pennybridge Tommy, who came first in the senior class for brown huacaya males at this year's British Alpaca Society awards.

Ms Preston said there will be old-fashioned machines to show how to spin the yarn and turn it into an appropriate material for knitwear.
