MERINO LADIES' KNITWEAR 'HAS ADVANTAGE OVER ARTIFICIAL FIBRES'
Women looking for clothes made of a fabric which offers a more natural feel could pick up some Merino ladies' knitwear.
According to the Financial Times, high-quality batches of the material come from the Southern Alps mountain region of New Zealand, where the horned animals live all year round in subzero temperatures.
The wool is also largely odour-proof, giving it an advantage over artificial materials.
However, Merinos only come down once every 12 months for shearing, making the fabric a much-sought commodity.
Jeremy Moon, founder of Merino wool clothing store Icebreaker, explained: "It's born in the mountains and worn in the mountains. The importance of retail [compared with wholesale] is being able to create a deeper connection with people."
Alicia Carr recently wrote for Outside that Merino wool might be the ideal attire for people fancying a springtime hike, as it is a good way to keep sweat at bay and allow the wearer to stay warm and ventilated.
