ORGANIC CLOTHING SUPPORTED BY PRINCE CHARLES

Ladies and men's knitwear could see a surge in popularity after the Prince of Wales announced his support for woollen and organic clothing.

A scheme will be launched tomorrow (January 26th), which aims to make consumers more aware of the eco-friendly fabric, according to the Times.

It is hoped that sheep farmers could see a boost to global wool price if the scheme is a success.

"The Prince hopes to encourage a return to woollen carpets and rugs instead of wooden flooring and for woollen clothes that last instead of the 'fast fashion' trend for cheap, synthetic, throwaway garments that are being dumped in landfill sites," the publication explained.

According to the managing director of Conde Nast Nicholas Coleridge, who is enlisting various people in the industry to the cause, it is hoped that by making wool more desirable prices will go up.

Wool is fully bio-degradable, it lasts longer than certain synthetic materials and is environmentally friendly, Mr Coleridge explained.

A wool week is being planned by organisers for September to further the cause.

Wool is soft, warm, strong and comfortable, which makes it ideal for clothing, aboutwool.com explains.ADNFCR-2444-ID-19574839-ADNFCR
