PUPILS LEARN ART OF WOOL KNITWEAR AT FISHBOURNE ROMAN PALACE
Wool knitwear interested pupils from Northwood College, Middlesex, as they learnt about its creation during the Roman era.
Students headed to Fishbourne Roman Palace in West Sussex to be taught the basics of the yarn industry from thousands of years ago, Culture24 reports.
They discovered the initial stages of the process and were shown how plants were used to card the sustainable material.
Experts from the East Sussex Guild of Spinners and Weavers showed the visitors how to wash the wool and comb out any dirt, before weaving and spinning the yarn.
Around 150 people are members of the guild, which was created in 1953 for those interested in creating and learning about wool knitwear.
Teacher Jacqui Onslow was quoted by the website as saying: "All the girls loved the idea that this was a hands-on trip
and have asked to do some of it next year in school."
