Wool knitwear will be created during an event aiming to be a record-breaker, it has been claimed.

On Worldwide Knit in Public Day, held on June 12th, people in Toronto, Canada, will be taking their knitting needles and trying to enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the most knitters in one place at the same time.

And this is part of a general resurgence of people taking up the hobby and trying to create their own wool knitwear, according to Sadie Lewis, who spoke to Inside Toronto.

She founded Streetknit, one of the organisations assisting with the record-breaking attempt.

Ms Lewis explained the benefits to learning the art of knitting, which can be done almost anywhere.

"It's nice to be able to sit and knit and watch TV," she stated, adding she also enjoys the hobby while spending time on public transport.

Worldwide Knit in Public Day was established in 2005 with the aim to bring people together and encourage them to create knitwear while meeting others.
