SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL 'USED BY YOUNG BRITISH DESIGNERS'
Wool and other sustainable material is enjoying a second life at the creative hands of many British designers, it has been said.
Ladies knitwear and other textiles are ideal to be used again and again, according to an article published in the Daily Telegraph.
Elizabeth Cook is one designer who collects sustainable material from a range of sources, such as friends, family and recycling centres.
She then converts the textiles into all sorts of items to be used around the house, such as rugs, cushion covers and blankets.
And even those items of knitwear that are worse for wear can be boiled down to create felt, the article explains.
"When I search for raw materials at my local recycling centre, I'm amazed at how many new clothes are thrown away," Ms Cook states.
But many friends have cherished ladies knitwear they cannot bear to throw away but is no longer suitable clothing - and this is ideal for her designs, she adds.
However, wool clothing could also be transformed by simply accessorising it with chunky jewellery for a bohemian look.
