UGG STYLE BOOTS AND KNITWEAR 'POPULAR' AMONG SHOPPERS
Sales of Ugg style boots and wool socks have seen a large increase over recent weeks.
John Lewis experienced an rise of almost 300 per cent in people buying Ugg style boots.
Its sister company - Waitrose - noted a demand for cashmere and wool socks which rose by 50 per cent in the final days of the post-Christmas sales.
The London Evening Standard reported the figures yesterday (January 5th) and said that a demand for warm clothing could explain the sales boost.
Ear-muffs in the department store had sold out and demand for knitwear is said to be "hugely up" on last year.
Snow left freezing on the country's surfaces is said to be bad for retailers because, if transport stops, shoppers do not venture out, the publication claimed.
But this was not a problem for many stores this week, and sales of coats, knitwear and boots are higher than expected for the time of year.
John Lewis reported this week that it had seen record-breaking sales over the festive period.
