WOOL AND YARN INDUSTRY REPRESENTED BY NEW BODY
The wool and yarn industry in New Zealand could see a boost, following the creation of a new industry body.
David Carter, the country's agriculture minister, launched the Wool Group, which includes a number of the sector's representatives.
He explained wool growers and farmers will be aided by the organisation and it hopes to make the market more profitable for those it represents.
The New Zealand Press Association quoted Mr Carter as saying: "We've now got to give this body time to prove itself to the wool growers."
He explained the country needs to find a balance between farming the sustainable material and teaming it up with the appropriate brands and retailers.
If this happens, "there is an opportunity to restore profitability to wool growing", Mr Carter noted.
In the UK, efforts are being made to provide a boost to the nation's yarn and wool industry.
Earlier this year, Prince Charles launched The Wool Project - a campaign to promote the sustainable material and aid those working in the sector.
