WOOL KNITWEAR TO BE CELEBRATED AT AUSTRALIAN FESTIVAL
Wool knitwear will be showcased at an event in Australia to highlight the industry's important role.
As part of the Teneriffe Festival on July 3rd, there will be a fashion parade celebrating the town's roots in the wool trade.
Sheep shearing and spinning demonstrations will also be on offer throughout the day, held in the suburb of Brisbane.
Councillor David Hinchliffe said: "Wool was an important part of this nation's economy and Teneriffe was at the very centre of that trade."
He explained the area was named after the island of Tenerife more than 150 years ago and since thrived as part of the yarn industry.
"The many residents who now live in the former wool stores recognise that legacy," Mr Hinchliffe added.
Other highlights of the celebrations include a farmers market, arts and crafts and cooking demonstrations.
Teneriffe only gained official suburb status in February this year and the first festival in the area plans to commemorate the change.
