WOOL 'USED FOR DUVETS' AS WELL AS KNITWEAR

Knitwear is a common use for wool produced in the UK, but many other products can also be made from the natural substance.

And a farmer in Wales is now using wool in a novel way for Britain, by creating duvets from the warm material.

Roger Payne, a farmer from Llanbedr, was quoted by the BBC explaining the advantages of wool duvets, also known as 'baavets'.

Italy currently makes this type of bedding but there was no British-made alternative.

Mr Payne said it was difficult to find the machinery to create the duvets because continental quilts had previously replaced them, along with polyester alternatives.

"It is a completely traceable sustainable product and it does everything we say it does in terms of regulating heat for a better night's sleep," the farmer stated.

Production of the duvet is currently underway throughout the UK, but Mr Payne eventually plans to move this solely to Wales in the future.

The insulating qualities of wool are also commonly used around the home, with Kevin McCloud recently explaining to the Daily Telegraph fleece can absorb condensation, as well as keep draughts out.ADNFCR-2444-ID-19769443-ADNFCR
