LADIES SLIPPERS TO HELP WITH RELAXATION?
Donning some comfortable ladies slippers and spending some time relaxing could be as good for the body as falling asleep.
This is according to a new book from Dr Matthew Edlund, a sleep specialist, who has discovered passive rest has the potential to help the body and mind just as much as slumber, the Daily Mail reports.
His research into sleep has revealed the vital role it plays in maintaining health and he was quoted by the newspaper as saying: "All the science shows we need rest to live, just like we need food."
Dr Edlund stated this can be achieved without necessarily falling asleep, but he warned sitting in front of the television is not an ideal approach, as while doing this will help the body rejuvenate itself to a certain extent, the brain will still be in use.
Earlier this month, the Daily Express reported new research from the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, US revealed those who sleep for under five hours a night are at risk of heart disease.
