AUSTRALIANS TOLD TO 'KEEP HOLD OF LADIES SLIPPERS'

Ladies slippers are often a year-long essential for British women, with temperatures in the UK rarely reaching the highs seen in countries such as Australia.

But now it seems those living Down Under require the footwear, despite it being spring on the other side of the world.

The Brisbane Times warns: "Don't put away woolly slippers just yet. There are more chilly days to come."

Bryan Rolstone, a forecaster at the Bureau of Meteorology, says it is usually "quite warm" at this time of year, with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees Celsius.

However, the current weather system means mens and ladies slippers remain a necessity for Australians.

Mr Rolstone predicts the current conditions are likely to continue into next week, after which the normal climes may return.

Steve Batie from JournalStar.com also recently advised people invest in the warm footwear, suggesting now is a good time to do so before the winter chill sets in.
