ETHICAL CLOTHING SPEND 'ON THE UP'
Ethical clothing could see a surge in popularity after it was announced that Fairtrade products are on the increase.
The Fairtrade Foundation has revealed an annual increase of 12 per cent on its sales, which have a retail value of approximately £799 million.
Editor of Ethical Consumer Magazine Rob Harrison explained that many people were proved wrong with their predictions for such products during the recession.
Market researchers claimed that ethical shopping would not hold-up during a time when people had less money, but the opposite was actually the case.
"This is a demonstration that people think that these behaviours are an important way of changing the world to something that is a bit different from what we have now," Mr Harrison noted.
Ethical clothing products grew by more than 100 per cent between 2008-09, he added.
The Co-operative Bank's Ethical Consumerism Report stated in December last year that ethical spending in the UK was rising annually.
