Keeping a selection of mens and ladies slippers near the front door is an option for those looking to keep their house clean and tidy.

This is according to Mary Gold from the Daily Mail, who wrote an article answering the common conundrum of whether it is polite to ask guests to remove their outdoor footwear.

She writes: "Some hosts offer their guests slippers when they arrive, which they keep in a big basket by the front door," adding: "Shoe removal is one of those issues that everyone has an opinion on."

Not only can germs and dirt from outside be brought into the house when people leave their shoes on, but Ms Gold notes there is also the danger that high heels can damage certain types of flooring, such as wood.

Her comments follow advice from yourhome.ca, which suggested providing ladies slippers for winter guests can make visitors feel comfortable and create a homely vibe.
