Sustainable materials are at the forefront of one teenager's mind every time she goes shopping, it has been revealed.

Hannah Golden, 15, makes checking how and where her clothes are made a priority, the MercuryNews reported.

Her interest in sustainable materials came after she watched a documentary about some of the factory conditions low-paid workers endure when creating some of the high-street fashions.

It inspired her to start a Fair Trade Club at her school and now she is championing the cause of ethical fashion.

Ms Golden's European history teacher Jeremy Shonick told the publication consumers hold a lot of power because of their purchasing choices.

Indeed, the Fairtrade Foundation stipulates a number of standards before an organisation can bear its official logo.

Standards include ensuring a guaranteed minimum price is agreed with producers and making sure there are minimum and progressive benchmarks regarding the conditions of trade and production.
