TEAM KNITWEAR WITH HEAVIER FABRICS FOR A "CUTTING EDGE" LOOK

Teaming knitwear with ostensibly mismatched fabrics can create the "cutting edge" look that is bang on trend this season.

Writing for the Telegraph, Harriet Quick said recent fashion shows in Paris included various knits in steel and cloud-white hues that were worn with completely different textures for a modern look.

In addition, this style suits most shapes. Mark Fast's collection included one cable-knit grey dress on a size 12 model, which is virtually unheard of in the high fashion world.

Fast proved body-con knits look fantastic on curvier girls, Ms Quick noted.

She explained that recent designer collections had created a "revolution which has seen knitwear elevated from frumpy to cutting edge".

Julien Macdonald was also quoted by the newspaper as saying that knitwear is going through a period of growth.

"Processes have changed due to the development of yarns and machinery, which means that more technical knitwear is possible," he remarked.

If you want to try a new look this autumn, why not try a cord skirt or soft black leggings with a gorgeous slouch jumper?

V-necks work well at keeping the style flattering yet comfortable - or those who like a preppy take on knitwear could opt for a lovely ballet-style crossover jumper.
