Offering a pair of mens or ladies slippers to guests is a good way to make them feel welcome.
That is the advice of Mary Carol Garrity, from Scripps Howard News Service, who says this is a good way to let them know "how much you love them".
Robes and slippers are one way to do this, as well as including a comfortable chair and luggage stand in the guest room.
Homeowners could also consider putting together a welcome basket, which can be stocked with maps, phone numbers and ideas for activities in the surrounding area.
The same level of attention to detail should be followed in the bathroom, as visitors are likely to appreciate the offer of shampoo, toothpaste and disposable razors, Ms Garrity adds.
A recent article in the Daily Mail offered similar tips, stating the option of ladies slippers by the front door is seen by some as a good way to encourage guests to remove their outdoor footwear.
