WOULD YOU PAY THAT LITTLE BIT MORE FOR GREEN WOMEN'S KNITWEAR?
A new report has shown consumers looking for green women's knitwear are paying a premium over less environmentally-friendly products.
Conducted by Kelkoo, the study revealed those buying ladies' knitwear in 2010 paid an average of 25 per cent more to ensure their clothes were more ethical, something many shoppers thought was worth it.
This is compared to customers choosing baby products, stationery and DIY items, who paid an increase of 18.5 per cent, 16.5 per cent and 19 per cent respectively to go green this year.
Bruce Fair, managing director of Kelkoo UK, said: "Availability, green price premiums and consumer demand [will] change over the next few years, but probably the single most important factor preventing a greater take-up of green merchandise in stores and the internet is price."
Will Hodson, from the Ethical Consumer Magazine, recently suggested companies need to do more to ensure that people looking for clothes that are environmentally friendly have the hard facts to help them buy the right products.
