YARN INDUSTRY SEES EFFECTS OF WET WEATHER
The yarn industry may have been affected by the recent wet weather seen in many parts of the UK.
According to an article in the Herald today (July 26th), there are positive and negative consequences of the rain that has hit much of the country in the past few weeks.
Many farmers will have welcomed the rain, but sheep shearers could have faced difficulties when it came to collecting the sustainable material from their flocks.
"Wool has to be shorn dry or it will not store properly," the writer explains, but he adds many farmers have sheds in which to house their sheep during rainy spells.
He adds the task of shearing is a difficult one, with many people believing "a day's shearing is the equivalent of running a marathon".
Some of the more accomplished shearers may consider entering contests, such as the Golden Shears World Blade Shearing competition, which was held at the Royal Welsh Show last week.
